Orlando Jones grew up in Mobile, the son of a former baseball player who played for Philadelphia Phillies. He later moved to Mauldin, South Carolina in his teenage years, and attended Mauldin High School from where he matriculated in 1985. Orlando became involved in acting during his high school days when he played a werewolf in a haunted house to earn money for the junior/senior prom. Jones later went to the College of Charleston, South Carolina, but dropped out without graduating.

Jones wanted to pursue his cinematic dream, and formed the Homeboy’s Productions and Advertising, together with comedian Michael Fechter. The pair worked on numerous commercials in the late ’80s, including with Michael Jordan and McDonald’s for the special sandwich called “McJordan”. Orlando started his writing career for the NBC comedy “A Different World” in 1987, and also had a small role in the season five finale. His acting debut came in 1992 as a police officer in the TV series “Herman’s Head”, and the same year he appeared in two episodes of Bill Cosby’s “A Different World”. His net worth was established.

Orlando got his first significant role in the comedy show “MADtv” (1995-1997), in which he played various roles in 41 episodes; he was cast as one of the nine original members of the show, that ran from 1995 to 2009. Jones left the series after two seasons to pursue a movie career, and he was cast in such films as Larry David’s “Sour Grapes” (1998), Mike Judge’s “Office Space” (1999), and Barry Levinson’s “Liberty Heights” (1999). Jones significantly increased his net worth after taking part in these movies.

He continued to be a regular performer in the coming years as he starred in comedy “Double Take” (2001) with Eddie Griffin, and also in “Evolution” (2001) with David Duchovny and Julianne Moore. Orlando additionally filmed “The Time Machine” (2002) with Guy Pearce, “Drumline” (2002), “Biker Boyz” (2003) starring Laurence Fishburne, and Duchovny’s “House of D” (2004). He then took a short break from movies and switched to voice acting for a while with the “Father of the Pride” series that aired from 2004 to 2005. #Quote
1On being the spokesperson of the "Make 7UP Yours" commercials: I walked in thinking, "I have ten movies under my belt and now they want me to go back to making commercials?" I said, if I do that, I want it to be funny. Quite honestly, I didn't think the deal was going to make, because I wanted part of the creative control. I was impressed that they were making an offer to a non-athlete young black male to be a spokesperson for two and a half years. To their credit, they said, absolutely yes, they never questioned anything I wanted to do. It was a blessed experience for me. (PopMatters.com, 2000)
